Dolphin, wahoo, snapper & big grouper for Florida anglers

Captain’s Blog – May 28, 2010 – Marathon Florida Keys – Four Florida anglers + two days of fishing on the SeaSquared = lots of fresh Florida Keys fish and good eats!

The Brevard County Florida group consisted of Tom Winar, Merritt Island, Douglas Ryder, Cocoa, Patricia Brickner, Melbourne, and Janet Loor, Mims.  The got together to spend Memorial Day weekend at Coco Plum Beach and Tennis Club in Marathon and do some fishing with SeaSquared Charters.

We spent the first day fishing offshore for dolphin.  We went 32 miles out and I must have put 100 miles on the engines.  It was tough hunting.  We managed to came back to the dock with a nice bunch of schoolie dolphin and two wahoo.  The anglers took their wahoo to Frank’s Grill for dinner and said he cooked it two ways for them and both were excellent!

The fishing was much better on day two.  Outstanding, actually.

We hit the reef for snapper and grouper.  Right off the bat, we had two black grouper in the boat – a 12-pounder and another hefty 20-pound fish.  We added two eight-pound class gag grouper and a 13-pound red grouper to the box.  To round complete the outing, we caught 35 yellowtail snapper ranging from 18″ up to 22″.

We also caught and released two cobia.  One of them already had a tag from my charter with Doug Richards earlier in the week.  Pretty cool!
