Epic weather for first timers from Michigan

Marathon Florida Keys Fishing Report, Capt. Chris Johnson, SeaSquared Charters, April 5, 2011

Despite some epic weather that cut their charter short, the Wuestenberg family from Saline Michigan enjoyed some fun Florida Keys fishing!

Kurt and Melissa and their kids, 11-year-old Haley and 15-year-old Cole, scheduled a fishing charter with SeaSquared as part of their first Florida Keys vacation experience.  It was a bit windy during the morning, so I delayed their departure until noon.  At about 2 o’clock, an ominious cloud line began approaching from the North.  We had the same conditions a couple of weeks ago, so I knew what we were in for.  We stuck it out as long as it was safe and got in three hours of fishing.

We were fishing one of my Gulf wrecks, and the crew caught a mess of nice size mangrove snapper along with bluefish and blue runners.  They released some small grouper.  The Wuestenbergs feasted on the catch at Porky’s Bayside BBQ.
