Steve Benson, from Boca Raton, brought his son Kobe (7) and nephew Jake (9) to Marathon Florida Keys for a week of fun in the sun.
Marathon Florida Keys Fishing Report – Captain Chris Johnson, SeaSquared Charters – August 11 and 13, 2010
Steve booked his trips with SeaSquared Charters well in advance and he and the boys were really looking forward to fishing. Unfortunately, a tropical storm rolled through the Keys, causing a slight delay of game. We finally got the guys out on Wednesday afternoon after our shark fishing adventure with the Campbell clan.
With conditions still a bit bumpy out front, we headed to 2 spots in the bay. Steve and the boys put a nice mess of good size mangrove snapper in the boat.
Our second outing was a full day in the Gulf. We hit 3 wrecks and lost count of the number of fish that landed on their hooks. They released bluefish, ladyfish, goliath grouper and a bunch of sharks. They kept their limit of mangrove snapper along with some Spanish mackerel and jack crevalle.
We had also arranged for Steve to take the boys on a flats trip with Capt. Diego Cordova of Flat Out Sportfishing here in Marathon. The goal was for the boys to catch some small tarpon. What they got instead was a beauty of a permit!
We really admire folks like Steve who value time spent with his son and nephew. Fishing is one of the highest quality ways to spend time with family and friends. Although we certainly enjoy hosting our hardcore anglers, SeaSquared has come to specialize in family fun fishing. Capt. Chris truly enjoys teaching kids the joy of bending a rod and delights in watching our junior anglers grow up as they return to fish with us year after year.
