Great Florida Keys fishing for father and son

Father and son return for another fishing trip with SeaSquared Charters.

Marathon Florida Keys Fishing Report – Captain Chris Johnson, SeaSquared Charters – November 13, 2010

Doug Vissicchio, who lives in New York City, always enjoys a visit to his parents at their vacation home in Marathon.  Fishing with his dad, Andy Vissicchio, is just a bonus.

Our day started out with a bit of wind, but the conditions leveled out toward late morning and we ended up with clear blue skys and relatively calm waters.  We went to Hawk Channel off Marathon in search of snapper and grouper and were not disappointed.  Doug and Andy caught a lane snapper, a bunch of mangrove snapper to 17 inches and a 7-pound red grouper.

They also boated 4 mutton snapper, including a hefty 10-pounder that Andy caught on a 12-pound rod.  That’s nice catching!

A 15-pound king mackerel topped off the catch.  I’ll be smoking the king for the Vissicchio family to enjoy smoked fish dip over the Thanksgiving holiday.

When I cleaned the red grouper, out popped a Spanish lobster in such good condition the fish must have eaten it seconds before taking our bait.  Pretty cool!
