Captain’s Blog – March 18, 2010 – Marathon Florida Keys – I had the pleasure of taking Tom Rinehart out for a half day of fishing.
Tom does some chartering in the Tampa area, so he certainly knows his way with a rod and reel.
We started on the patches to catch some bait. We then headed farther offshore in search of amberjack, and we were not disappointed. During 90 minutes of fighting time on one of my deep wrecks, Tom landed a monster 66-pounder along with his little 46-pound brother.
To give Tom’s arm a rest, we moved inshore for some snapper fishing. It took us no time at all to limit out on lanes, yellowtails and mangroves in the 16- to 18-inch range. We also released more grouper than we could count.
