A quick trip to his vacation home in Marathon afforded David Wilcher the opportunity to go fishing with his good friend, Richard Scudder.
They gave me “Captain’s Choice” as to our target for today. Since David loves to tug on big fish, I opted for catch-and-release shark fishing.
But, before we set to wrangling the big boys, we caught a nice mess of mangrove snapper in Florida Bay. They threw back tons of keeper size fish and kept their limit of 10 mangies in the 14- to 16-inch range.
With dinner in the cooler, we headed to my shark spot. The pair caught and released 14 lemon sharks ranging in length from 4 to 7 1/2 feet.
The fishing was great, but I think David and Richard enjoyed being out on the water together more than anything, regardless of what they caught.
