Captain’s Blog – December 28, 2009 – Marathon Florida Keys – I absolutely love taking people for their first Florida Keys fishing adventure!
The Westfield family fled wintry Walker Minnesota for a Christmas vacation in the Keys and included a half day of fishing with me. It was a bright, sunny day, perhaps a little on the chilly side by our tropical standards.
I took the group of six to the reef for some snapper fishing and we were rewarded handily. We self-imposed a 14-inch minimum on the yellowtail and they put 29 in the boat. They also caught four nice kingfish, the largest going a good 30 pounds. The sharks tried but were unsuccessful in getting many of our fish.
I’d like to applaud the Westfields for contributing to our local economy. They stayed at Coco Plum Beach & Tennis Club, dined at Porky’s among other places and had their SeaSquared catch cooked at Castaway. Come back soon, Westfields!
