A fishing trip that’s both fun and successful for you and your family is our highest priority!

When you fish with SeaSquared Charters in the waters of Marathon Florida Keys, you will use high quality tackle and gear that is always maintained in excellent condition. Our Captains fish with both live and fresh baits as well as various artificial baits. Their policy is to take more bait with them than they’ll actually use.

We have a multitude of fishing venues just minutes from our dock. The Captain selects the best one for the day’s fishing based on what you’re looking to catch along with the weather conditions.

SeaSquared Charters has multiple full-time boats and crews. Our larger boats (SeaSquared, Wayne’s World, Blue Magic and Kelly's Green) each can accommodate groups up to 6. The SeaSquared Too (our 25-foot Parker) is best suited for up to 4 anglers but can accommodate a family of 6 with small kids.

How to Book Your Charter

When you have your dates in mind for fishing, just give us a call at 305-942-9214, and Christy will get all the necessary information.

A major credit card reserves your charter. We do not charge your card a single dime – not even a deposit – until after your trip. If you’d like to use another form of payment at that time, that’s just fine with us.

It’s a good idea to book your charter before you arrive in Marathon as our calendar gets filled very quickly, especially around the holidays, spring breaks and in May (tarpon season). We would not want you to be disappointed. We are always flexible with shifting charters around to accommodate weather conditions.

Once you have booked your charter with Christy, she will send you an email confirmation with complete details.   It’s a good idea to print out this confirmation and bring it with you as it contains directions to the boat and other important information about your charter.

Cancellation Policy

As noted above, we do not charge a deposit when you make your reservation.  And, if you cancel more than two weeks prior to the date of your trip, you incur no cancellation fee.

If, on the other hand, you choose to cancel within 14 days of your scheduled trip, you will incur a $200 cancellation fee. If you cancel within 48 hours of your trip, or you do not show up for your scheduled trip, you will be charged the full amount of your charter.

Weather

The Captain has the final say as to whether or not the trip will leave due to inclement weather. We always try to move your charter to another day, depending on our availability and your schedule. If we are forced to cancel altogether due to weather or mechanical failure, you incur zero cost.

SeaSquared Charters Wear and Endorse Salt Life Optics SunglassesWhat to Wear and Bring

  • Probably the most important thing to have is a great pair of polarized sunglasses. They are essential to aid in seeing the fish in the water. We wear and recommend Salt Life Optics to aid in seeing the fish in the water.
  • Shorts, t-shirts and flip flops are the standard attire for most of the year.
  • Wear boat shoes or sneakers if you prefer.
  • In cooler weather, you may prefer long pants, long sleeve shirts and sneakers.
  • Dress in layers. You can always take things off, but you can’t put on what you don’t have with you.
  • A hat or visor will protect you from the sun.
  • The Florida Keys sun is strong year round. Be sure to bring sun screen and lip balm and use them both!
  • Bring whatever you’d like to eat and drink while on board. We recommend plenty of bottled water. We have extra room for a small cooler up to 48 quarts for your provisions. If you bring a cooler, please be sure you have ice.
  • If you choose to bring beer or wine, please be sure it is in cans or plastic rather than glass containers.
  • Each boat has dry storage to accommodate jackets, etc.
  • Bring a cooler for your fish, but leave it in the car until we get back to the dock.

Avoid Sea Sickness

Sea sickness is 99% preventable but not very curable.  If you are prone to sea sickness, don't allow it to ruin your day on the water.  Here are our recommended preventatives.  As with all medications, consult your physician, use caution and follow the directions.

Scopolamine Patch.  For the hard core "I always get sea sick" and "I get car sick easy" types. This preventative is also referred to as "the patch" and can be obtained by prescription from your doctor. It looks like a little round Band-Aid and is worn behind your ear.

Bonine® (meclizine).  This is the best pill form, over the counter preventative.  There are no others that are "just like Bonine®."  There's little to no side effect. You will need to get this stuff working in your system well in advance of your trip. We recommend taking one dose of Bonine® the night before your trip and another dose in the morning when you wake up. The biggest mistake people make with pill form preventatives is that they take their first dosage either right before or right after stepping on the boat. That's too late! Sea sick prone people usually spew these pills out before they can take full effect.

Sea-Band®.  These are pressure point therapy wrist bands. Most people discount this preventative as a gimmick.  They work!  The nice thing about this preventative is that they can be added along with any of the other preventatives without conflicting with them.

Ginger.  Good, old-fashioned ginger root.  The same stuff your grandmother carried in her purse.  You can get this stuff in pill form, candied, raw, powdered, gum, as a paste, dehydrated, in cookies.........well, you get the idea. Ginger settles your stomach quickly and, just like with Sea-Band® , ginger can be added along with any of the other preventatives without conflicting with them.

Dramamine® (dimenhydrinate).  Probably the most well-known, but definitely the worst.  DON'T TAKE IT!  Not only is it a poor sea sickness medication but the side effect of "sleepiness" can ruin your fun also.

Plan Ahead

There are two Walgreen's stores in Marathon, but you may want to acquire your sea sick preventative before you leave home.  With the exception of the prescription patches, all of our recommendations are readily available on Amazon.

If you're using any of these preventatives for the first time, try using at home first. You don't want to find out that you have an adverse reaction when you're several miles out at sea.

Don't Overindulge

We realize you're on vacation, but avoid a heavy meal the night before your trip.  And, keep breakfast on the light side too.  Better to bring some snacks along to munch on during your trip.  Get a good night's sleep.  Finally, keep in mind, hangovers are way worse out at sea, and your friends will laugh at you!

What NOT to Bring

  • DO NOT bring any GPS devices. If you do, they will be collected by the Captain and stored for the duration of your trip.
  • You may bring your mobile phone, but DO NOT use any GPS services or apps during your charter to obtain the Captain's fishing location.  If you do, the Captain has the option to end your charter early, and you will be responsible for the full amount of your charter, plus 20% gratuity, regardless of how much time you were out.
  • DO NOT bring firearms, illegal drugs or hard alcohol.

No Bananas!

No Bananas On Board SeaSquared Charters Marathon Florida KeysSeamen are a superstitious bunch, and Florida Keys charter captains are no exception. There are a number of historic explanations for the no-bananas superstition, but here’s our favorite …

In the early 1700’s, during the height of Spain’s South Atlantic and Caribbean trading empire, ships loaded with bananas found their crewmen dying suddenly and mysteriously. It turned out a species of spider with a lethal bite liked to hide in bunches of bananas. The crewmen slept on top of the bunches and would be bitten in their sleep, never to wake again.

So, please, leave your bananas behind when you fish with SeaSquared Charters!

How Many People Can Fish?

Due to the ultra-clear water and educated fish we have here in the Florida Keys, typically no more than 4 anglers - and sometimes only 2 anglers - can fish at the same time.  If there are more lines than that in the water, the fish will spook and the catches will be negatively affected.  You also run a pretty good chance of spending more time untangling lines than fishing.  Fortunately, the catching is usually rapid, allowing for plenty of opportunity for everyone in the group to get shots at the rod.

If this is unacceptable to you, we suggest you opt to fish on a party or head boat that carries 40-plus passengers rather than a private charter boat such as we offer here at SeaSquared Charters.

Your Catch

Believe it or not, some Florida Keys charter boats do not allow you to keep your fish. While it’s certainly a ton of fun to catch the fish, it’s a real blast when you get to eat it too!

With SeaSquared Charters, you keep 100% of the legal fish you catch!

Once back at the dock, the Captain will clean and fillet your fish for you and provide storage bags for you to transport your catch in your cooler.

Pack and Ship Your Fish

SeaSquared Charters will pack and ship your fish for youSeaSquared Charters provides pack-and-ship service to eliminate the cost and hassle of flying or driving with your fish.
